Here’s a bit of gossip for you….we, the FMF staff, love to craft!! Its true, we not only work together 5 days a week but almost weekly I stay after work and we have some kind of craft night! Usually we will either sew, do macrame or make something using the Cricut, but we have done other things too like paint, which was a disaster for me and that is all we’re going to say on that topic lol, but we’ve also made Gnome door hangers! I’m sure there’s other things that I’m forgetting but the point is, we like to get our craft on lol! When Melissa’s daughter is here every other week, she is an amazing and patient, which is a must lol, instructor that has taught us how to macrame with absolutely no training for herself, she just looks at it, maybe watches 2 minutes of a video and then just figures it out…it’s amazing! Here’s just a couple of things we’ve made in the past:

So at last week’s Craft night, we decided to sew….but had no idea what to sew, so I hit up my “To Make” list to see if there was anything I wanted to make that would be a quick sew and low and behold, Boki from Gigi’s Fabric Shop to the rescue! If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, let me do a quick little “Story Time With Shawna” to catch you up!
When I was waiting for my Juki TL18QVP Haruka to arrive from the Canadian store I purchased it from, I excitedly scoured the internet to gather as much information as I can so that once she actually arrived I would be 99% ready to begin my journey with her! Through this research I stumbled across what would prove to be an invaluable resource, Juki Junkies, which is part of Gigi’s Fabric Store in Florida! They have useful YouTube videos, which I watched on repeat lol, and the 3 people that are most on camera, Gigi, Boki and David, are just amazing…so relatable and easy to follow, and fun…did I mention how much fun they are lol?!? Ohhhhh and most importantly, this is where i first learned about Glide thread!!! Its pretty much all they use and after seeing it in use on their videos, I was hooked! Anyways, Boki does these “Make it Mondays” where each week she makes a new project live on FB (on the Gigi’s Fabric Shop FB page) and their app and I always check it out, either then or later on replay and see if it’s something I’m interested in making, although, even if it’s not, I usually watch it just cause it’s fun and informative, and I always learn some little tip or trick from Boki! There, you’re all caught up lol, although since I’m such a sharer today, I’ll tell you that if ever I relocate to Florida for some weird reason, I’ll be heading to Gigi’s Fabric Shop with my resume in hand lol!
Ok so anywhoooooo, one of things Boki recently made was the free pattern Trash Can by More Me Know, which I thought was so clever cause dont we all have those little pieces of garbage floating around our vehicles because there’s no handy place to put them at the time? Boki also makes a practice one before the live so that way if there’s anything she wants to tweak, she can and then passes that on to us! For example, this is the picture of the pattern….

So as you can see, a nice sturdy “can” with a defined shape but, the pattern calls for a lightweight interfacing but there’s no light interfacing that I know of that’s going to give you that structure! Boki suggested something heavier, like Pellon 809, which turned out great in the one she made live! I looked at the picture and I see even more structure, like Pellon Flex Foam so that’s what I chose to use! I liked the idea of it being wide open and staying that way no matter how full it was, how or where I had it positioned so, for me, foam it was! I did cut it 1/2″ smaller than my pattern pieces to keep it out of the seam allowance as well, even though my Judi Juki could handle it, why not give her a break so she can rest up for my next big project lol!
This was a quick and fun sew, and other than sewing the velcro on, Wendy and I both got ours done that night, and she’s even made another one since then as she has multiple Grandkids that will love to hide all sorts of goodies in them lol! If you think you don’t need a garbage can in your car, it certainly has other uses as the author states, “This handy little bag is perfect for use in the car. Whether you use it as a car trash can or a car organiser, you’ll wonder how you managed without it. Great for the kids to keep their bits and pieces and have them within reach in the back of the car. Or use it on the passenger seat while you drive and flip it to the front so you can keep a few bits and pieces within reach when you need them.” So clever!
So here’s my finished bag and Wendy’s….can you guess which one is mine lol?!?

Thank you so much to Boki for doing all the hard work first lol, made this even easier for us! Oh, and in case you’re wondering, Melissa has been wanting to make herself an apron and some of the popcorn bags so thats what she made! I didn’t get pics of the bags but here she is looking so lovely in her apron! Before you ask what pattern she used, the answer is none really lol! She looked at a couple and then decided, as she usually does, to “wing it” lol…hmmm, I wonder where Aliah gets it from lol!!

I hope I didn’t bore you too much, this seemed like a long one but I had lots to say apparently lol! I hope you’ll check out Juki Junkies, they share so much information and as I’ve already said twice…they’re fun!!
Have a great week all, we’ll chat soon!
