This weekend, I’m on the road, but dont worry,I’m taking you with me! We’re going all the way up the 402 to London, Ontario, to watch the Brier Curling Championship!

If you’ve read a few of my Blogs, you’ll know I’m a wee bit obsessed with curling (and yes, pugs lol) so when I found out the Brier was being played in London, so close to where I live, I knew I was going to buy tickets to be there to see the action in person but then something super cool happened…..I won 2 tickets for the whole opening weekend, 5 games in total!!!!

So yes, I won tickets for the whole weekend but Mother Nature decided that I didn’t need to go that much so she threw a storm at us preventing us from going to the Friday night game, darn her! I survived though, I just curled up on the couch with snacks and my puppies and watched it from the comfort of my home lol!
There were 2 games on Saturday and 3 on Sunday so we decided to stay at a hotel on the Saturday night instead of driving back and forth sooooo you know what that means, right?!? Yessssss….I got to use my pretty new overnight bag!

Now some of you faithful readers will also remember that I said I had one more project to share that I made with my favourite Large Japanese Purple Floral with Metallic fabric….well, that time has arrived! Please let me introduce you to my new matching toiletry bag!

My goodness, that’s a lot of beautiful-ness, don’t you think!!
This is the 2nd time I’ve used this pattern which is the Juniper Toiletry Bag by Blue Calla Sewing Patterns and once again I found it to be an enjoyable sew! The bag makes up with 2 separate sections and I quite enjoy this feature as I keep my makeup in the “dry” section and the side, the “wet” section is where I keep my toiletries that could get wet lol, that may have been self-explanatory lol!
I don’t really enjoy sewing in piping so I decided to skip it, and I’m quite happy with the sleek look I ended up with! Since I also skipped the piping in my overnight bag, the Swoon Vivian, I can say the “real” reason I didn’t do the piping is to keep it cohesive….that sounds better than “I don’t like doing it so im not gonna” lol! I’m also proud to say that I did stick with my “use up my stash” for linings so I found a pretty purple one that matched quite nicely!
Well, that’s it for this time, I’ve gotta get back to the games now, I’m missing some good shots…..HURRY HARDDDDDD!
Wishing you an amazing week!

If I knew how, this would all be in green print! I am green with envy! I attended the Scotties Tournament in Winnipeg many years ago and LOVED it! I am watching the Brier on TV — Winnipeg is a long way from London 🙂 I hope the storm didn’t cause too many issues for you.
A young friend was supposed to fly out of Winnipeg to Toronto and then go on to London this last weekend — his flight was cancelled. The worst of it is that he is an apprentice and was scheduled to start his next “in class” portion of his apprenticeship March 6. He now has a flight out of Winnipeg on the 6th and will have to navigate the snow problem from TO to London when he gets there. Hopefully the highways will be back to their usual condition by then.
I look forward to your next blog — you will have lots of memories of the weekend games — they have been pretty interesting to watch even on TV!

I’m so sorry to make you green lol!! I am originally from Brandon, Manitoba, so I have curling in my Manitoba blood lol! I might make you slightlier more “green” when I tell you I used to work at Tim Hortons so when the Brier was in London 12 years ago, I worked shifts at the Timmies kiosk and then got free tickets to watch the games and since I was working there, I got to go “behind the curtains” where the curlers where and saw them up close lol! I just smiled politely most of the time but then, I saw my favourite player, Johnny Mo standingvby himself at the elevator and I bravely walked up and said, ” sorry to bother you but I just had to come and say that I’m such a fan of yours and it was amazing to watch you guys (Team Martin) at the Olympics” eeeekkkkkk! He was very kind and we chatted for just a few seconds before I slinked off lol!
I surely hope all will be well travel wise for your friend and that he enjoys London! Let’s all ask Mother Nature to kindly knock off her antics for at least that period of time!!
Thanks so much Karen….oh wait, should I tell you that I’ve also got tickets to go the the Men’s World Curling Championship in Ottawa next month?!? Watch for me….I’ll be in the front row on the Sunday 😉!!

I love reading your blog. I have just purchased the same Juki machine and we are getting acquainted. So far I am very uncoordinated using the cutter on the foot pedal and the knee lift but we are working that out. Practice practice practice . Loving the machine though. And really like all the pattern suggestions you steer us toward. Many thanks to you!

Congratulations Donna! In my humble opinion, you’ve purchased an amazing machine lol! I was exactly like you in the beginning, there was definitely a learning curve to the whole knee lift and cutter but eventually it becomes second nature! I use my knee lift every time now! I still once in awhile cut the thread with the pedal when I don’t want to but I just plunk the needle right back down, backstitch and keep on truckin’ lol! I’m so glad you love it so far, I’ve almost had mine a full year and there’s not been one time that I was unhappy with her performance! Thank you for your kind comment Donna, I appreciate it so much! Happy sewing!
