I was so looking forward to this weekend because, for the first time in ages, we had absolutely no plans! Usually we attend 2 ball games but this weekend they only had one home game on the Friday night so that meant 2 glorious days of doing absolutely nothing, or at least doing whatever we wanted, whether that be something or nothing!
Saturday started off just leisurely hanging out in the backyard with the puppies, drinking coffee (me, not the puppies lol), playing ball, just enjoying the beautiful weather! Once it started to get too warm for them, in we went and I decided I was going to head to my sewing room and sew….something! I didn’t really know what I wanted to sew but I was leaning towards cutting into some knits and giving my serger a workout. I headed to my fabric shelves to make some decisions and as I stood there, a different idea came to me…I wanted to organize my fabric collection! I took everything off the shelves, gave them a good cleaning and then started putting the fabric back in piles by categories!
This is where the title of this Blog comes in to play….what was I thinking when I bought some of those prints lol?!? I know we all do this, and not just with fabric, it mostly happens to me with clothing…and haircuts lol! I obviously understand that your style and taste changes throughout the years, but some of these fabrics that were making me question my sanity were purchased not that long ago at all because I’d say I performed this exact task perhaps a year ago and I got rid of a lot of things then!
There were also lots of little scraps and those seriously had me scratching my head…what the heck was I keeping those for lol?!?
Oh well, it’s all good now, those scraps went in the bag with all the other ones that don’t need to take up space on my shelves any longer and they will soon make their journey to Goodwill!
While I was working away, I kept out a few pieces of minky as I knew they would be what I was going to work on once I was done! This is exactly why I’m glad I did this little task..when things are disorderly, I can’t see what I have and it’s easy to forget things! I had purchased these minky for a specific project but that had been forgotten because I couldn’t see them!
The actual sewing didn’t happen till the next day and, and once again, not till after another leisurely morning lol!
These projects are just repeats, things I actually make fairly often, as I’ve said before, it’s my goal to have them for every season so I can change them out! I’m speaking of the cushion cover on the wingback chair I have in my sewing room, also affectionately known as “Minnie’s chair” as she’s always up there when I’m sewing!
I took a before picture so you can see why I so desperately needed to make a new one…..

….and just in case you thought I was kidding about Minnie always being in the chair, as soon as I took that Pic, she made an appearance lol…

But you can see the dire situation right? An Easter Hopping Gnomes cover….IN JULY, that’s dreadful lol! The Minnie Mouse blanket is there because sometimes I have to cover Minnie up or my cold legs lol!
So within a short period of time I had completed 2 cushion covers and one lap blanket! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….I love a quick project, especially when it’s a pretty basic one but has a huge impact! So here’s the first one, a truly summer print….Beach Gnomes!

Ahhhh, summer has arrived to my/Minnie’s chair! The blanket was one I made awhile ago using the Gnomes and Lava Galaxy so now I have a matching set! It’s a full 2yd size blanket so it won’t be used to cover my legs while I’m sewing cause it gets stuck under the wheels on my chair lol! And now for the next version made today, which isn’t season specific, it’s just a whole bunch of awesomeness!

This is my Friends set, which I wanted very purple as an ode to the purple in Monica and Rachel’s apartment! Sadly, this print is all gone, in fact, this was the last piece we had, it was less than a yard but I knew I had to buy it! I had thought I’d make a cushion cover with it but when I found the piece of Viola Galaxy that was a similar size, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to make a lap blanket! I used a piece of Purple Smooth Minky for the cushion cover and I think they look great together…the more purple shades, the better!
Since my Viola Galaxy was bigger than the Friend’s print, I opted to do a self-binding blanket using the old/original method. I know most people find the new method of mitering the corners of the backing fabric first and then just fitting the feature fabric inside easier/quicker, but I don’t think I really do! In my experience there’s more math stuff to figure out in the new method and if I can avoid that, I will lol!

I’d love to know what your preference is if you make self-binding blankets, wondering if I’m the only one that is old-school lol!
Well that’s it for now, but I will leave you with one final, adorable picture of Minnie in her chair, she couldn’t wait to get up there and test out her new softies…..could she be any cuter?!?
