Cute and Practical!

Hello friends and welcome to another edition of “Shawna’s Confessions” lol, perhaps this is what I should call my Blog since it seems like every post has me confessing something to all of you lol!

Today my confession is that I love lists! I’ve always loved lists, I’ve always kept lists for groceries, To-do, To-Make, etc., however, and this is the real confession…..lists have become a necessity for me uggggg!!!! I’m honestly not sure how I’d get through a day, a week, a month….a year? Forget about it, it wouldn’t happen!!!!!! I understand this is yet another way aging has hit me but geez, come on…can’t some things be the way they’ve always been lol?!?

I’ve shared with you in the past that I have a “To-Make” list that I keep in my Sewing Journal but a few months ago, I realized I wasn’t really adding to it….and it wasn’t that I didn’t have anything to add, I just kept forgetting to! I’d say to myself the good old, “I’ll add that to the list later”, and well I’m sure you already know how that was turning out lol! So I decided that I would move the list, make it more accessible, move visible, so I moved it to my bulletin board in my sewing room, which is right by the doorway that I walk through daily to get to our family room. Did that help? Not really lol! You see, I still have to come down to the bulletin board to write it down and that isn’t always possible so finally it occurred to me that I should start another “To-Make” list on a device that I always have with me….my phone….duhhhhh Shawna lol!!!! Aye yi yi, that was a lot of what now seem like obvious steps to get to a solution lol!

Anyways….it’s working!!! Now as soon as a thought comes to me, I just add it to my “Notes” section and on we go…easy peasy, lemon squeezy lol!

On the weekend I was outside playing with the puggies in our backyard that is completely covered in a beautiful, thick blanket of leaves and Norman and I were running into a bit of a problem…we kept losing his ball in the leaves so I was literally shuffling around the back yard to see if I could find it! Well, I did find it, much to his delight, but I also ended up finding about 5 more lol! I took them inside and lined them up on a little ledge we have by the door, but then one fell down, then another…got them picked up and put back but another fell down……it felt like comedy hour, or that I was on candid camera lol! I immediately thought, “I should make a little basket to hang from the hooks we have at the door to keep the balls in”, and then, yessssssss……I added it to the list lol!!!!!

Now I’ve been busy sewing quite a bit lately, making up some projects to go in our newly refreshed kitchen, which I’ll share soon, but I came to a standstill as I need a bit more fabric…but I was in the mood to sew so I pulled out my phone to check the list to see if I had a quick little project to satisfy my sewing need without starting another big project….ta da…….hanging bag!!!!!

I knew it would be super quick and I already knew that I could find a pattern at Sew Can She as I’d seen one in the past! It’s one of my favourite sewing websites, Caroline has a crazy amount of patterns and they’re FREE!!!! Sure enough, I found a few on her site, including a newer one that I hadn’t seen yet but after a quick read, I knew it would work perfectly!

This is her Easy Pocket Pod Baskets and it’s pretty much exactly what I was envisioning, including the finished size of 7.5″ tall by 7.5″ wide, the perfect size to hold a whole bunch of little balls lol!

I love Caroline’s patterns, she explains things very well so a beginner sewist could easily follow along, and she also adds in options so that you can make it however you want to, for example, this little basket pod can be made super simple or you can add in up to 6 pockets!! For my purposes, all I needed was the pouch, and the more I thought about it, as pretty as that little scoop is in the front, that’s probably going to provide an easy escape route for the balls so I just squared off that pattern piece and voila, I ended up with the cutest little hanging pouch pod…and here she is…..

I did have a few balls sitting beside the pouch as cute little props buttttttt…….

…someone kept stealing them lol!!!! Now here’s how the bag looks in it’s actual home, and the hook it’ll be hanging from lol….

Anyways, I’m super happy with how this turned out and now I’m looking at that refreshed kitchen wondering where I could add it some little hanging pouch pods in there lol! She has a similar pattern for smaller ones to hang from your pegboard….hmmm, I’m now very interested in doing that…excuse me while I get my phone out to add that to the list lol!

Have you made any of these hanging pods, and if so, what did you put in them? I need all the ideas so I can keep making them lol!

Wishing you all an amazing week ahead!

Shawna

    1. It’s so great…so once you make it, let me know what you use it for….I’m thinking about making a matching one for doggie treats….one for reusable straws…etc, etc, etc lol!
