Well, once again, I’m late to a party, but they, whoever they are, do say better late than never, which I’m not 100% sure I’d agree with…..if it’s an actual party and I’m so late that it’s ridiculous, I’ll be honest and say I’m not showing up lol!
In this case, I’m not talking about an actual event though, I’m referring to a sewing pattern that was going around the bag making groups a couple of years ago, it was sooooo crazy popular, you couldn’t open up social media without seeing someone posting their version and raving about it! I was intrigued but held off from purchasing the pattern as I wasn’t really sure it was a project I actually needed to make, I didn’t have that immediate “oh I need that so I can use if for ………..”!
The pattern I’m referring to is the Spring Roll Pouch Pattern by Love You Sew Patterns!

Isn’t it such a unique pattern and I just have to share what the designer says about it because it sums it up perfectly, “Just like my favorite food, the Spring Roll Pouch wraps up so much goodness in one little package”!! How cute!
The pattern was released in January of 2023 and I held off from purchasing it until November, and then I ended up making it…..NOW lol! It has sat printed and ready to go since then, but as I said, I didn’t have a particular need for it….and here comes the funny part, I still don’t have a need for it but I made it anyway lol! See, told you it was funny! So why did I make it then? Ummmm…..I don’t really know! I’ve just been having the “itch” to sew but what’s been stopping me is that I don’t really know what I want to sew….so I literally grabbed the pattern that was at the top of my “to make” pattern pile, which was this one!
The pattern suggests using a canvas or denim for the exterior, so I quickly grabbed one of the heavier canvas drapery fabrics I had on hand, matched it with some black cottons for the interior and away I went! I tried to not get to hung up on materials, as can sometimes happen and then I end up where I started, not getting anything actually done, then I feel overwhelmed and leave my sewing room feeling defeated! The one good thing about not having a clue how or where you’re going to be using the project is that any fabric will do, no “theme” needed!
Because it was such a popular make, there were so many videos posted on YouTube by all kinds of sewists, but one of them was a sew-along that the actual designer had done so I decided to follow along with that!
Now here comes a bit of truth for you…..I didn’t read the pattern at all before starting lol! I just decided to do the video and hope that that was enough, and it was….mostly! I did get caught a couple of times, I did silly mistakes that I wouldn’t have done if I had read the pattern, or at least watched the entire video before starting! After the second boo boo, I decided it might be wise to at least watch the video of the section we were on and then go back and sew along, and that worked, no more silly mistakes….what a concept lol!
So…..here it is, my kind of fancy little Spring Roll Pouch!

See….she’s a wee bit sophisticated wouldn’t you agree?!? I feel like the colours, the pattern and the rose gold hardware all work together so nicely too!
When it came time to choose a thread colour, you might assume that I would use a black or white, but I wanted something that stood out and didn’t blend in so much, so I went with Glide Crush thread, a beautiful colour that’s similar to a rose gold, which, of course, matched the exterior zipper!

Overall, it was an enjoyable sew, and a fairly quick one too, (minus the boo boo re-do parts lol)! I will say that the seams get quite thick in areas, and while she does give you suggestions on how to lessen the bulk, I think that some sewing machines may still struggle with them! I think if I didn’t have my Judi Juki, I would probably skip the heavier exterior fabric and just go for a cotton there too. If you choose to use the foam, as I did, it provides enough structure without having to use the heavier fabric!
I’m glad I ended up making this cute little pouch, and while I still haven’t decided what I’ll use it for, I am sure that whatever I do with it, I’ll be proud to carry her around with me!
That’s 2 projects finished in September already, and I’m happy with that, glad to see that my sewing mojo has started to return after it’s summer vacation lol! I’d love to know if you sew all year round or do you too find yourself taking a bit of a hiatus during certain periods of the year?
Thanks so much for being here, I appreciate you taking the time to read my post! Now you go and have yourself an amazing week! Cheers!
