Tutorial

Remember when?

Remember all the way to last week when I shared a project I made from The Stitching Thimble? And if so, then you also probably remember that I said there was another project of hers I wanted to do? Well…

I was feeling very “blah” one evening, probably because I came home from work and just plunked in front of the tv for hours like a zombie so I eventually made myself get up and do something constructive! Norman and I headed outside for awhile but even after that, there was still time to do something….so up to my sewing room we went!

I didn’t want to start a huge project so I knew exactly what I could do this time….a Car Phone Caddy! This was the project that I always wanted but didn’t know existed lol!

There aren’t any pattern pictures to share so instead of me trying to explain what exactly it is, in case you’re like me and didn’t know, I think I’ll do things backwards and share the pic of my completed project first so you can see what I’m talking about!

Ok so there she is, looking all cute with those cute little boop-able noses on the Dog Faces cotton print from Elizabeth Studios and Cat Paws print from Timeless Treasures!

So the purpose of this item is to have someplace to store your phone, and whatever else you want, while you’re in a vehicle! You can hang it by the strap, which can also be opened if you need to do that in your vehicle. Still not sure what I mean? Ok, let me borrow my husband’s phone again and take a pic of it “in action”!

Ta da!! So cute and useful too! I will also hang my glasses in there and there’s room for a lip gloss too!

Normally when I’m the passenger, which is 99% of the time lol, I will just keep my phone in my purse, which is usually on the floor by my feet. Then when I need it, I pull my purse up, do I wanted to do, put my phone back in my purse and then back on the floor goes my purse. This process is repeated whenever I need my phone and I have to say, it gets annoying lol! With this little holder, I can just pop my phone in there when I’m not using it! It’s perfect and exactly what I needed!

Once again, Annette’s tutorial was great and easy to follow, and what I particularly loved about this tutorial is that it didn’t come out perfect and the way she handled it was wonderful to see! She was calm and reassuring and just kind of laughed it off! I mentioned before that these videos are definitely geared towards the beginner sewists so what a wonderful display of how to react when things aren’t absolutely perfect! The issue was she kept getting her llamas upside-down down lol! Obviously doesn’t effect the finished project at all, it was just funny lol!

As you can see from the picture, I can just slide the strap onto the door handle but if I needed to, I could completely undo the strap, separate the 2 pieces and the attach it where needed! I attached it to my chair so you could see what the strap looks like:

This is also the only hardware required too, just 2 d-rings!

I did do 2 little alterations to her instructions. Instead of making my own straps as she did, I used 1″ red webbing, because you know I love the ease of webbing lol! I just melted the ends, folded them over twice and stitched them so they wouldn’t fray!

The other change I made was to put the d-rings on the opposite strap that she did so mone would hang in the back and not in the front. Again, nothing to alter the project, just a preference on appearance!

We’re off on a road trip this week so I’ll get to put this project to use, so now I’m excited for 2 things on this trip lol!

Some of you said you were going to try last week’s phone stand so now I’m curious who will try this one too! If that’s you, I hope you’ll share your projects pleasseeee!!

Off I go, so have a great week friends, and take some time for you!
