Tutorial

Another Quick One!

I was recently scrolling through some reels, which, for me, are usually about 3 things, dogs, sewing or recipes! I’ve learned lots of things from these reels and find myself saving lots of them to refer to them later!

My algorithm has me figured out, and I’m ok with that, especially when it introduces me to new people that I enjoy and then I will follow them. This is exactly what happened lately, I found this woman that uploads video tutorials every Friday, according to her. From what I’ve seen, most of them are geared towards the new sewers but that’s ok, we all tend to do some steps differently so when she’s explaining how or why she does something a certain way, it’s sometimes a new way for me so I’ll give it a try! Her FB page is called The Stitching Thimble….and I know literally nothing about her other than she makes some fun projects that interest me and this part is really cute, you’ll hear her refer to her videographers, and those videographers are her Grandkids lol!

Anyway, a few of the videos are of projects I’m had on my “To Make” list for ages and I had kind of forgotten about them so after watching one such video, I decided there was no longer any reason to put it off, I could just do it right them!

This particular project is a Phone or Tablet Stand. I don’t use a tablet but I do have a couple of stands in the house that I like because they can enable me to use my phone hands-free….and they’re cute, they’re these little mini chairs from Ikea, this is the pic from their website……

Fun…right? But I’ve always had one complaint about them and that’s that I can’t use my fingerprint button on the bottom when it’s in the chair, I have to pick it up! I know, what a hardship lol, but it’s annoying so why not make one that does what I want lol!

First off, I’m not 100% sure of this lovely lady’s name but I do see an email address on her FB page and it looks like it has the name Annette in it so that’s what I’m going to assume is her name!

So now back to the tutorial! Annette is very generous and gives you all the information you’ll need for the project, including the materials you’ll need and their exact measurements! She said it was our choice if we wanted to interface the cotton fabric or not so I chose to go with the interfacing just to add a little extra strength to the fabric since we were going to be stuffing it pretty full. I used my trusty Fuse Flex and since it was pretty small pieces I was interfacing, I found some scrap pieces that I could use up so another yay!

Like I said in the title of this post, this is a super quick project….until I came to the hand-stitching part that is lol! I’m just so slow at it and I don’t really enjoy it, but I’m sure most of you will have no problems with that part and will truly be done this handy little project in minutes!

So here is my finished little stand…..

Cute cute cute! Just don’t focus in too close on that front part where you can see my hand-stitching lol!

I just used a cute little print I had a small piece of for the main body, and another striped print to make the tab. At first I wasn’t going to make the tab but I’m glad I did, it makes it easy to pick up and then if I wanted to set it out of the way, I could always hang it from the tab! I’m now thinking that this would be cute to make multiples of so that we could each have one to use on game nights! We have one trivia game that we play and each player uses their phone to answer their question on! If we each had one of these, you wouldn’t have to hold your phone or find something to lean it against! Oh gosh, now I’m thinking of all the fun prints I could use to make them all different and then everyone could choose which one they want to use, it would be like choosing what colour of playing piece they’d like to have lol!

Oh, and we can’t forget to talk about that chonky backside lol! Annette recommends you use a combination of poly-fil stuffing and rice or beans, something like that. I used rice and it turned out perfect! You end up with a nice structured, slightly weighted backside that can easily support the weight of your device!

I’m so happy I stumbled across this page, Annette seems so nice and it enjoyable to listen to! She has another project I’m going to try next, it’s something I never even knew existed but I’ve always wanted something like it lol!

Before I leave you, I should show you that I snagged my husband’s phone so I could take pictures of an actual phone on the stand, and the best part of these turned out to be his screensaver lol!

But seriously, doesn’t this little thing do a great job! The phone is very stable in there, you can press anywhere on the screen and it stays put, it doesn’t wobble or anything. You can put your phone on its side too and it works great that way too! I’m so happy with how this turned out!

Well, that’s all for now friends! I hope you enjoyed our time together as much as I did and I hope you’ve been having a great week so far! I’d love to know what you’ve been creating lately so please share, who knows…..it might be something I’ll need to add to my “To Make” list lol!

  1. i just finished a Sunshine Crossbody Pouch, by Bagstock Designs. It’s a free pattern, and there is an addon pattern for card pockets. I made it a bit bigger than the pattern, because I thought the phone pocket was too small.

    1. And exactly as expected, I’ve just added another project to my list lol! I’ve never made a pattern from them yet so this is a fun way to try them out! Thanks so much!

      1. Free patterns are a great way to test out patterns from designers who are new to you.

My version of the bag is on my blog, and I might have used some Funky Monkey fabric.
